Bailliage Provincial of Bali

A full moon set the stage for the inaugural Chapitre of the Bailliage Provincial of Bali held at the brand new Mantra in Nusa Dua.

As members, several from the Bailliage of Jakarta, and guests arrived a refreshing glass of Billecart-Salmon Brut Réserve Champagne greeted them with a fine selection of canapés.

Then Gary Rosen, our charming host, invited us into the elegantly-decorated ballroom featuring white lilies table centre-pieces. Michael Burchett graciously welcomed everyone. He introduced Firdaus Siddik, Member of the Conseil Magistral and Bailli Délégué of Indonesia, who eloquently reminded us of the history and traditions of the Chaine since 1248.

The Induction Ceremony followed. Ben Chardome, Argentier Provincial, Lilian Khaw, Bailli of Jakarta, Sashi Rajan, newly appointed to the Council of the local Bailliage of Seminyak and Michael Burchett, Bailli Provincial of Bali joined Firdaus in officiating. 24 were inducted including 18 new members. New Baillis receiving their insignia were Frits Henskes of Ubud-Sanur, Indy Siddik of Seminyak and Thurston Saulsman of Bali Outre-Mer.

The Bailliage of Bali Outre-Mer has been created to benefit Chaîne members who commute to Bali for work or visit regularly. The intention is to enhance camaraderie between the countries in which ‘Outre-Mer’ members reside. The new Bailliage will host three dinners, one in Bali and two in Perth, Australia which will be included in the Bali calendar.

Formalities over the dining experience commenced. Sommelier Katrina Valkenburg and Chef Allen Stevano introduced the courses and accompanying wines …

After dinner, certificates of appreciation were presented to Gary Rosen (General Manager of Mantra), Chef Allen Stevano (head of the culinary team), and to Anik Santun Wati (head of the service team). The kitchen and service brigades paraded for deserved praise.

An enchanting trio of musicians played throughout followed after dinner by terrific selection of disco songs chosen by the DJ enticing everyone to boogie.

All in all the evening was a triumph and many thanks go to all who arranged the fantastic night.
