Jérome Bonnafont was appointed Ambassador in early November 2012. A former spokesman for Jacques Chirac and Chief of Staff of Alain Juppé, he came to Spain with a wealth of diplomatic experience.

In addition to his several high-ranking assignments in France, Jérome Bonnafont also accumulated praise abroad. After his first experience in India, he was appointed a Counsellor at the Embassy of France in Kuwait from 1991 to 1993, before moving to a highly-coveted posting in the Office of the Assistant Secretary General of the UN.

Whilst in New York from 1993 to 1995, he was responsible for overseeing UN peacekeeping operations. He returned to work in France, following which he was posted to India for the second time in his career, where he was Ambassador of France for four years from 2007 to 2011.
