ACCR (Association caritative de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs)

The 2nd Ikusasa School of Cooking in Cape Town, South Africa

The first Ikusasa School of Cookery opened in Durban in January 2010 and in June 2013 a second school was opened in Riebeek Valley near Cape Town.

The cookery course runs for one year, for between 10 and 12 children.

Nearly 40 children have already received training in Durban with 10 participating in the first programme staged in Cape Town.

In November 2013 the children received their official government qualifications: an impressive achievement for these young people!

The programme provides an opportunity for disadvantaged children, who have been victims of violence, to discover the joys of cooking and pursue a career (Horeca). Training, knowledge and experience are offered. Recognition is international. One young person who studied in Durban in 2011 is now working in a Michelin 3-star restaurant in London!

About the ACCR

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs aims to promote the concepts of “eating well” and “drinking well”, in a spirit of friendship and mutual respect, where we see others as they are and not as we would like them to be!

Alongside this commendable focus on friendship and respect, it was important to create a separate, complementary association called the “Association Caritative de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” (the charitable organisation of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs), abbreviated to “ACCR”.

The goal of this organisation is, through social, cultural, educational or humanitarian measures related to food, including – but not limited to – combating hunger and malnutrition to help children of all nationalities who are suffering, regardless of race or religion. Thanks to the funds raised by members of the Chaîne, there are currently four projects, one of which is the Ikusasa School of Cookery, with a common goal of “helping children in need”, that are financially supported by the ACCR, and we are keen to keep you informed of their progress.
