Bailliage of Algarve sets the bar high for 2014

The first event for 2014 in the Bailliage of Algarve was held at the Longevity Wellness Resort in Monchique. Chef Jan Stechemesser, Maître Restaurateur, presented a creative and most appetising lunch for the 24 members and guests who were present.



Following an aperitif of Quinta do Encontro Espumante from Bairrada and an interesting amuse bouche of apples and black pudding, the luncheon opened with a wonderful truffle-flavoured crab tower.



Next came a duo of quail with soup made from really fresh baby spinach. This was followed by a rich tiger prawn ravioli in miso soy broth.

For the main course, grilled guinea fowl breast with home grown herbs, organic vegetables and old Balsamic jus, was delectably tender and delicately flavoured.



These courses were accompanied by an interesting selection of Algarve wines some of which perhaps did not quite do themselves justice when compared to the fine food.

To close this fascinating repast, members enjoyed a creamy sheep´s cheese with red berries and rosemary honey followed by a dessert of rich Valhrona chocolate, accompanied by Rozes 15-Year old Special Reserve Port.



A harmonious blend of nature and health, the Longevity Wellness Resort was the first integrated wellness resort in the Algarve. Since our lunch the property has been sold and is now closed for refurbishment work. It will re-open again in May 2014 as the Monchique Wellness Resort.
