Italy Twinning Ceremony Weekend

Bolzano (Bozen), October, 14-16, 2011

When we visited the Bailliage of Bavière Orientale (Germany) in 2010, we made our farewells saying ‘looking forward to seeing you soon in the South Tyrol!’ And so it came to pass that a large party of members and guests arrived from the Regensburg area of Bavaria, to be indulged with our delicious local produce. Whilst ‘soon’ was somewhat longer than anticipated, given the sincere friendship and fun enjoyed during the weekend, it was well worth the wait.

The programme commenced on the Friday evening at Vineria Paradeis, the wine tavern standing on the village square of Magrè that belongs to the famous Alois Lageder wine estate. After an aperitif in the garden we enjoyed traditional Tyrolean food and wines in the beautiful hall.

Lunch on the Saturday was necessarily light – a perfect risotto prepared by Maître Rôtisseur Luis Agostini at his Ristorante Condito in Bolzano.

In the evening there was a formal Gala Dinner at Castello di Presule (Prösels Castle). In the Gothic style and dating from the 12th century, it is considered one of the most beautiful castles in the area.

At the aperitif reception in the courtyard a burning brazier cast a magical light on the proceedings as the daylight slowly faded. There was music and cheerful conversation; the ladies wore beautiful dirndl making for a blaze of colour equal to the flames of the fire.

We then moved to the Armoury, for the official signing of the Twinning Charter by Sabine Settari, Bailli of the Südtirol, and Karl Günther Wilfurth, Bailli of Bavière Orientale; the ceremony being witnessed by Roberto Zanghi, Member of the Conseil Magistral, Bailli Délégué of Italy.

Served in the beautiful Great Hall of the castle, the marvellous dinner was prepared by Maître Rôtisseur Stefan Pramstrahler, owner of the renowned Romantik Hotel Turm Fiè, with just one assistant.

Dynamic as ever, Stephan concluded the menu by cooking to order pancakes topped with lashings of chestnut cream for all who wanted them … and of course nobody could resist!

In presenting his compliments for a superb evening, Chevalier d’Honneur Luis Durnwalder, Governor of the multilingual autonomous province of South Tyrol, praised the Chaîne for cultivating the friendship and conviviality that it does. Everybody was indeed very happy as it had been a simply perfect evening.

On the Sunday we had a typical lunch in a former farmhouse: Hotel Pacher-Hof located in luscious wine and vine countryside near Neustift. Unfortunately though this meant that time had come for saying goodbye and once again, promising to ‘see you soon’!
