Hungary Gala Dinner

A Gala Dinner was held on the occasion of the visit to Budapest by a group from the Bailliage of Italy.

Gundel Restaurant, which for more than a hundred years has been an icon of Hungarian cuisine, was the chosen location. The dinner was served in the Elizabeth Hall, one of the most beautiful salons of the restaurant. Tables were laid with great opulence, the dinner service being Zsolnay porcelain – from the famous Hungarian hand-painted china manufacturer – together with fine silver cutlery and crystal glassware.



Fifty Hungarian members welcomed their Italian guests on the restaurant’s terrace. Aperitifs set an atmosphere of merry conviviality as everyone got to know each other.



A special menu was composed for the Gala Dinner by Maître Rôtisseur Gábor Merczi, the famous chef of Gundel, and his kitchen brigade, whilst Maître Sommelier Mihály Fabók selected an excellent range of Hungarian wines.



With the last course served, Bruno Peloi, Chancelier of Italy, expressed great appreciation on behalf of the visitors for the warmth of welcome and the outstanding quality of the menu. In particular he mentioned the refinement of the course and their fine taste accompanied by harmonious flavours of the wines. He ended his praise by saying that the goose pâté was so delicious that he would live very well indeed given the chance to eat it every day.



Bruno concluded by saying that it was not only the kitchen brigade which should receive praise. The service brigade also deserved a special mention for their courtesy and their well drilled precision – both in the highest principles of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.



In saying our farewells at the end of the evening, an extended Grand Chapitre celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Bailliage of Hungary was announced for September 10-15, 2015. Concurrent with the celebration in Budapest will be the 2015 Final of International Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition.

Continuing in the same spirit since 1990 we say vive la Chaîne!
