Switzerland Grand Chapitre

Held across the mountains at three lakeside locations

Bailli Rudolf Buchs and his officers, of the organizing Bailliage of Suisse-Intérieure, created a very personal and charming Grand Chapitre. Organizing such an event in a big city is already quite a challenge, arranging one across the mountains at three lakes is something really special!



A perfect Indian summer set the scene for spectacular outdoor cocktails at the opening event. Starting at Lake Zug in the heart of Switzerland, we had dinner in two groups at two restaurants simultaneously with the same excellent menu. Maître Restaurateur Christine Weder-Uhlmann and Maître Rôtisseur René Weder of Gourmet-Restaurant Sternen in Walchwil were the creators of the simultaneous feasts.




After this truly culinary highlight on the Friday evening, the following morning there was an excursion to the famous black Madonna at the monastery of Einsiedeln. This included a private pipe organ concert in the gorgeous baroque church followed by a humble but delicious tapas lunch in the private dining room of the Benedictine monks.

The elegant Induction Ceremony for 141 new members was presided over by Klaus-Wilhelm Gérard, Member of the Conseil Magistral from Germany.




The Gala Dinner to celebrate the inductions was held at Seedamm Plaza on the shores of Lake Zurich. The event was the swansong for its organiser, Bailli Rudolf Buchs, as he stood down from active office in favour of the newly-appointed Bailli, Dr. Stephan Landolt.

A great performance of teenage dancers to entertain the guests together with Maître Rôtisseur Heinz Brassel and his excellent team made this evening a memorable experience. To complete presentations and thank yous on the evening, Leo Erwin Stocker, Bailli Honoraire of Berne-Oberland, received the Chaîne’s Silver Medal. It was certainly a big surprise for this man who has dedicated his life to the excellence of gastronomy and hospitality for decades.




Third day, third lake: At Brunnen on the impressive Lake Lucerne, the relaxing Sunday ‘Farewell Lunch’ was hosted at the Seehotel Waldstätterhof. For a change, traditional dishes were served such as veal from the nearby valley of Muota which has an outstanding reputation, cured ham with melon or the simply delicious ox-cheek aspic.

For many of the guests these three days were a culinary round trip as well as a tourist journey in one of the loveliest areas of Switzerland.
