Portugal Christmas Gala Dinner

Bailliage of Greater Lisbon - a glitzy affair at the Ritz Four Seasons

This year the Bailliage opted to join a Gala Christmas event organized by Officier Gilda Paredes Alves. As well as being a Founder Member, her husband Joaquim Parades Alves was a Member of the Conseil Magistral and Bailli Délégué of Portugal for many years.

Gilda is a well-known personality in Lisbon through regularly organising glitzy Gala Dinners and Fashion Events to support needy charities. The December 13th event was for the benefit of the Comunidade Vida e Paz Homeless Persons Association.



The Ritz Four Seasons Hotel Executive Chef Pascal Meynard and his team had the challenge of preparing a wonderful menu for 220 guests, only a relatively few of whom were Chaîne members.

The wines for the evening were provided by Adega dos Favaios owned by Rosarinho Castel-Branco Sommer including Moscatel Reserve 2007, Douro White 2013 and Douro Red 2011.

The reception was held in the hotel’s Almada Negreiros Lounge. Several society magazine photographers were in attendance to capture the latest VIP images for the fashion and life-style magazines. One of them, Carlos Marques, honoured us by photographing the beautifully-decorated tables for our album as well as taking some spontaneous snaps of members of our group.



Dinner began with a risotto with shrimp and asparagus luxuriously topped with lobster sauce and orange - a wonderful taste and excellently presented.

Between courses a fashion show was provided by the stylist Cristiano de Sousa. A juicy veal confit with Parmentier potatoes and vegetables with tomato pesto was the main course.

A melodious violin concert provided a further interlude. For dessert we had a delicious Tarte Tatin with a Breton-style shortbread biscuit and vanilla ice cream.

After coffee and sweetmeats we danced the night away.

Besides having the personal pleasure of enjoying the event and supporting the charity, the evening was also an excellent opportunity to promote the Chaîne to the majority of attendees who were not members and knew nothing of our Confrérie. Through the good offices of Gilda Parades Alves they all know that there is a fantastic fine dining organisation around!
