Netherlands Antilles Dinner

Curaçao, January 21, 2012

Omar van der Dijs, Pair, owner of Licores Maduro in Curaçao, invited fellow members and their guests to a New Year's reception at the premises of his wine company. The proceeds of the evening were dedicated towards the schools on Curaçao that offer courses in culinary training.

Such was the enthusiastic response that there were over 100 people present. The wine warehouse was divided into three sections: for French, Italian-and Spanish wines. The overwhelming sense was of a lively atmosphere, encouraged no doubt by being amidst thousands of cases of fine wines, where business was still being conducted only a few hours before the guests had arrived!

Everyone received a form to judge the selection of wines tasted. At the end of the evening most had chosen two French wines as their favourites: a Burgundy, Meursault 2006 by Louis Latour, for the white, and a 2006 Bordeaux, Château du Tertre, 5th Growth Margaux, was the preferred red. Both were well-deserved choices!

Warm appreciation was given to Omar van der Dijs for making the warehouse available. Commemorative certificates were presented to Omar and his wife, Alicia, in acknowledgement of our gratitude for a well organised and thoroughly enjoyable event.
