Spain Visit & Dinner

Madrid, April 9, 2015

Bailliage of Madrid experiences a ‘White Fire’ exhibition and cochinillo for dinner

We started our 2015 cultural and culinary programme with a visit to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía which is Spain's national museum of 20th century art.

Coinciding with the closure of the Kunstmuseum Basel for the renovation of its galleries, the Museo Reina Sofía was showing a selection from the Swiss museum’s important collection of modern and contemporary art, comprising more than a hundred works (paintings, sculptures, collages, photographs and videos).

The Basel collection is one of the most important for contemporary art in Europe. The exhibition in Madrid is entitled ‘White Fire’. Composed of 106 works spanning from the late 19th century to the present day, its goal is to provide a broad overview of the evolution of modern art to contemporary, including examples of movements as diverse as expressionism, cubism, purism, abstraction, constructivism, minimalism, the German post-expressionism, post-war American abstraction and Pop art.

Through our Chaîne contacts we were privileged to have an exclusive guided tour of the exhibition.

After the visit we dined at Restaurante El Senador on the Plaza Marina Espanola. The restaurant is owned by our good friend Ángel Gutiérrez, Vice-Chancelier/Argentier of the Bailliage of Madrid. It was a very pleasant evening especially given the opportunity to discuss the fine paintings and sculptures we had seen whilst enjoying wonderful food. Perfectly cooked and presented ‘cochinillo’ (piglet) being the star dish.

Until next the event!
