Cook Islands Inaugural Gathering

A new National Bailliage in the making!

Situated in the South Pacific, south-west of Tahiti and halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii, the fifteen islands of the archipelago nation that is the Cook Islands are ‘scattered like frangipani petals floating across two million square kilometres of a seductive, sensual ocean’.

The Cook Islands has a climate to die for, outstanding beauty, a friendly population and a lifestyle imbued with peace all of which makes it a paradise.



2015 is the perfect year for the country to become the latest National Bailliage of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs as it coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the Constitution.

Leading the drive to create the National Bailliage, Phillip Nordt invited local tourism leaders, hospitality professionals and interested gastronomes to a cocktail party at the Muri Beach Club Hotel on Friday, April 10th.

A culinary arts lecturer at the Cook Islands Tertiary Training Institute Faculty of Hospitality and Services, Phillip says he is excited to bring the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs to the Cook Islands. He was previously Bailli of Christchurch (New Zealand) so is well versed in the Chaîne and its attributes.




A working committee, consisting of Phillip Nordt (as Bailli Délégué Elect), Rohan Ellis, Jean Mason, Sam Timoko and Ovaia Liewis, is in place to ensure that the Bailliage of Cook Islands becomes a member of the world’s most prestigious culinary organisation, upping the ante for local cuisine.




As a result of the enthusiasm from this initial gathering, further events are already in the planning for the rest of 2015. Phillip quipped that Chaîne members from around the world would be most welcome to come and delight in our paradise of islands as well as sharing fine cuisine and camaraderie!
