Monaco Dinner

April 26, 2015

Song Qi, the Principality’s gourmet Chinese restaurant, recently hosted the Principality of Monaco Bailliage and its second Dîner Amical of the year.

The Bailli Délégué, Gérard Canarie, had booked the venue for the exclusive use of the 70 guests, who were thrilled with the opportunity presented by the owner, the Giraudi Group, a member of the Chaîne. The decor of the venue evokes the golden age of Shanghai in the 1930s, with lacquered panels, alabaster and brass lamps and velvet banquettes.

Guests included Madame Alba Caliendo, Honorary Bailli Délégué of Monaco, Madame Gabriella Ivaldo, Bailli of San Remo (Italy), and her husband, Massimo Ivaldo, Honorary Bailli of San Remo. Visitors joined us from France, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

The Chef Alan Yau, with three Michelin stars in London, created a menu that was worthy of China’s famous sophistication. The dinner reflected the ethics of the Chaîne perfectly, with a focus on sharing, as everything was served from large dishes on the table rather than on individual plates.

After a selection of homemade dim sum, the chef served a bang bang smoked chicken salad and a deliciously crispy pulled beef with mango. A series of dishes, flavoured by ginger, with stir-fried vegetables and Black Angus, proved particularly popular. The flagship dessert, “Mongolian pagoda” brought the dinner to a close in spectacular fashion.

The two-hundred-year-old champagne producer, Henriot, was keen to be involved in this wonderful celebration and provided the aperitif for the event with a “Brut Souverain 2009”. A Louis Latour Chardonnay and a Grand Bateau Rouge (Bordeaux) were a wonderful accompaniment to the rest of the meal which took place in a lovely spring atmosphere.

At the end of the evening, everybody was unanimous in their praise of the quality of the meal and the wonderfully festive ambience.
