Monaco Visit

Parma region, June 12-14, 2015

The Bailliage of Monaco organised a voyage of discovery of the Parma region in Italy and of its delicious flavours. Its Bailli Délégué, Gérard Canarie, led the way in nurturing a relationship with the Parma Bailli, Pietro Sozzi, which made this experience possible.

Forty-two members were given the chance to discover the region’s flagship products, including Parma ham, Parmesan cheese and Culatello di Zibello.

On Friday 12 June, Zuarina, a family business founded in 1873, welcomed the group of Rôtisseurs for a visit of the facilities involved in curing 20,000 hams every year. A tasting session ended the tour.

On Saturday 13th, the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese factory was the setting for a tour of its vats and extensive ageing rooms.

This voyage of discovery through the land of Italian gastronomy didn’t overlook the city’s cultural attributes, with a tour of the historic centre, the cathedral, the baptistry and the illustrious Teatro Farnese.

The gala evening was held at the Michelin-starred restaurant Antica Corte, a member of the local Bailliage of Parma. Guests were treated to sophisticated dishes, made using ingredients produced on-site. We also had the pleasure of enjoying the famous Culatello di Zibello.

This unforgettable experience of discovering Parma came to a close at the restaurant La Locanda del Lupo, after the Monaco delegation was introduced to the owner of the Rocca di Soragna castle, which has belonged to the same family for almost 1,000 years.

The true values of the Chaîne, based on the concepts of conviviality and sharing, were epitomised by the meeting of the Baillages of Monaco and Italy, in the presence of Bailli Délégué Roberto Zanghi as well as the local Baillis of Parma and Piacenza.

We look forward to repeating the experience soon!
