Malta 30th Anniversary Grand Chapitre

March 16-18, 2012

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year, the Bailliage of Malta, under the stewardship of Bailli Délégué Dr Joseph Xuereb, boasts a strong membership and the list of approved dining establishments in Malta is growing rapidly.

As well as from the island itself, members and guests came from far and wide to attend the special Grand Chapitre, including Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, Switzerland, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, South Africa and Trinidad.

The Induction Ceremony, which took place in the Sala Lombarda at Palazzo Parisio, was conducted by President Yam Atallah’s appointee, Rene Kamber, Member of the Conseil Magistral from Switzerland. In addition to those receiving their insignia as new members or for a grade to which they had been promoted, there were several awards made. Of particular mention are Chancelier Charles A. Gatt who was awarded the Chaîne Silver Medal and Janatha Stubbs who received the Grand Commandeur award.

To conclude the official ceremony a twinning between the Bailliages of Malta and Italy was signed by the respective Baillis Délégués, Dr Joseph Xuereb and Dr Roberto Zanghi. A Champagne reception followed to toast the inducted members and the twinning.

Afterwards we were regaled with a Gala Dinner in the opulent main ballroom of Palazzo Parisio.

The joyful ambience and camaraderie were very evident and the dinner was a real example of gastronomic delight prepared by the kitchen brigade and impeccably served by the service brigade.

The Grand Chapitre weekend was enhanced by providing the international visitors with three special tours which included visits to the capital Valletta, also to Malta’s medieval capital, the ‘silent’ city of Mdina and the Three Cities, culminating in a genuine Maltese lunch at a restaurant in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk.
