Finland Chapitre

Lappeenranta, March 24-25, 2012

The Spring Chapitre of the Bailliage of Finland was hosted by the Bailliage of Carelia in the south-east corner of the country.

The region is known to have been a sanctuary for Imperial Russian royalties who were able to spend their holidays there in privacy. The history of these Imperial guests reflected in the themes of the event.

The venue was a newly-opened Holiday Club Saimaa - the first 5-star Spa & Resort hotel in Scandinavia - built in an area with a long tradition in boarding house and hotel activities.

More than 200 members and guests participated in the event, the official programme of which started with tzakuska, a Russian-style lunch buffet providing both visual glamour and a wide variety of tastes.
The Induction Ceremony took place in Club Arena, where 71 new members were inducted by our own Ari-Pekka Parviainen, Member of the Conseil d’Administration.

The Champagne reception was hosted by Mr. Kimmo Jarma, Mayor of the City of Lappeenranta. The Gala Dinner was inspired by courses known to have been served in the early 20th century in the Royal palaces of Saint Petersburg. The menu included caviar, fish, truffled fillet of veal and of course, Charlotte Russe. Elegant wines from Champagne, Alsace, Bordeaux, Jerez and Porto perfectly partnered the food.

The brunch on the Sunday morning followed the same Russian theme. It was held at the Restaurant Buttenhoff in the nearby city of Imatra. Buttenhoff having its origins in the Hanseatic city of Vyborg (now in Russia) was established in 1936 and is known as one of the best restaurants in South Carelia.
