New Zealand Dinner

Wellington, March 31, 2012

The Bailliage of Wellington held a very successful dinner at Dransfield House in Wellington.

Dransfield House is a listed historic place. Built in 1876 the two-storey Italianate mansion has recently been restored beautifully with polished rimu floorboards, plaster and rimu ceilings, open fire places and a surrounding veranda.

Crystal chandeliers, original oil paintings and ornate mirrors contribute to the unique atmosphere of the venue.

The menu was:

- Canterbury lamb pâté with salmon fillet ravioli, coriander spring
   onion salad and orange béarnaise

- Prime rib fillet steak with dukkah crust, toasted cashew butter,
   Roquefort cream and jus

- Blueberry and walnut sorbet with garden mint anglaise

- Crisp-skinned free range confit duck, char-grilled eggplant
   & courgette, smoked pepper sauce

- Belgium chocolate bavarois of fresh mango cream, vanilla
   pearls and cassia dust

The Bailliage of Wellington does not keep a cellar itself, so on this occasion the local Officers provided the wines originating from Spain, France and of course, New Zealand!

It was such a success that we will probably hold our Black Tie end-of-year event there too.
