Twenty members had the good fortune to be invited to attend a ‘mini event’ at the famous Johnnie Walker House at Sinan Mansions in Shanghai.
James Thompson, Chief Marketing Officer, of Diageo’s Asia Pacific Region, has been reported as saying that 'the vision of the Johnnie Walker House is to firmly establish Scotch whisky as part of a sophisticated and luxurious lifestyle and to inspire the next generation through the voices of inspirational leaders. The Johnnie Walker House presents us (Diageo, the owner of the Johnnie Walker brand Ed.) with the unique opportunity to share the pioneering story of Johnnie Walker House and to start a new chapter of whisky culture in China.'
The evening commenced with a tour of the famous private club which first opened its doors in May 2011. The tour included a whisky appreciation tutorial for interested members with the aim of educating them in the appreciation of different types of whisky and in the identification of their characteristics.
After the tutorial, the ‘cocktail reception’ before dinner enabled members to enjoy free-flowing different brands of exclusive Johnnie Walker whiskies, including the:
- ‘1910’ Limited Edition (specially introduced to launch the Johnnie Walker House in Shanghai)
- ‘Odyssey’ Limited Edition (recently launched in the Asia Pacific Region)
- Blue Label (Johnnie Walker's premium blend and one of the most expensive blended Scotches on the market)
- Blue Label ‘King George V’ special bottling.
The dinner was a fantastic five course menu paired with whiskies … naturally!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic evening. It was made even more memorable by the fact that at the end of the evening each participant was presented with a laser-engraved, personalised bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label as a souvenir.
