Switzerland Hunters’ Dinner

Mels, September 23, 2012

The local Bailliage of St Gall, situated in the east of Switzerland, welcomed fellow members from across the border in Liechtenstein to their traditional ‘Dîner de chasse’ (Hunters’ Dinner) at the well-known Restaurant Schlüssel (= 'key' in English) in Mels.

For the 48 guests the event started with a refreshing cocktail in the picturesque garden. Then, after opening words by the Jacques Sinz, Bailli of St Gall, and by Daniel Jäggi, Bailli Délégué of Liechtenstein, dinner was served.

Maître Rôtisseur Seppi Kalberer presented an extraordinary culinary delight: an amuse-bouche prepared from the offal of the chamois goat. This was something of a treat as normally the heart, kidneys and liver are reserved for the hunters themselves.

The subsequent courses, principally variations on deer and goat, were cooked with great professionalism and plated with much attention to detail. It was a special treat not only for the palate but also the eyes. The menu concluded with a superb dessert of raspberries and damson plums from Fellenberg.

To complete an exquisite evening, the attentive and charming restaurant team provided a seamless service. Bravo Marianne Blum and your well-trained and enthusiastic staff.
