Greece Culinary Reunion

Athens, May 30 – June 2, 2013

Mohamed Hammam and Tassos Kioulpapas, respectively Bailli Délégué of Turkey and Bailli Délégué of Greece excelled in their efforts to make the 8th Turkish-Greek Culinary Reunion an unforgettable event … and absolutely exceeded expectations!

Thirty-five members from Turkey travelled to Athens where, together with many Greek members they enjoyed the programme of wine tastings, culinary experiences and visits to archaeological sites.

The Divani Caravel Hotel was the host establishment. Once settled in the Turkish group joined the local members for a delicious buffet lunch in the hotel’s Browns Restaurant. In the evening, a five-course dinner – a surprise menu in fact – was enjoyed in The Première Restaurant at the Athenaeum InterContinental Athens. Adding to the enjoyment of the signature rooftop dining experience was the spectacular view of the Acropolis and the city.

Friday, the second day, started with a guided tour of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum followed by a lunch in the Center of Hellenic Tradition, owned by Chaîne member, Panagiotis Gerolymatos, Grand Officier. Mr Gerolymatos prepared a traditional lunch with local kebabs and ouzo!

In the evening, the group was taken to Oenotria Land at the Costa Lazaridi Estate, where they had a wine tasting. Afterwards, on the balcony in front of the pool, a fine menu was served. It was accompanied by excellent wines from the estate as well as authentic live Greek music. Present also for the dinner were Roberto Zanghi, Bailli Délégué of Italy, with his wife Petra.

On the Saturday the group transferred to the ancient site of Nemea where they enjoyed a guided tour of the Archaeological Museum as well as the whole Nemea site in general. Next stop was the Skouras Winery for a wine tasting and lunch.

In the evening the Michelin 1-star Varoulko Restaurant was the location for the event’s finale where Chef/Owner Lefteris Lazarou prepared a memorable menu with fine Greek wines accompanying the courses. Everyone expressed effusive praise for the quality of this dinner.

On Sunday morning our visitors were at leisure before catching the afternoon flight back to Turkey.
