Netherlands Grand Chapitre

Maastricht, September 20-22, 2013

Michelin-starred dining was a feature of this exceptional event

Well known in The Netherlands for its gastronomy and hospitality not to mention its history, Maastricht was an obvious choice our 2013 Grand Chapitre.

It was rewarding that 160 members and guests, of which some 40 were from other National Bailliages, had registered to participate. All were looking forward to very special weekend in Maastricht, the city beautifully situated on the borders of the River Meuse. They were not to be disappointed!



The week-end started well with a visit to Thiessen Wijnkooperij, one of the oldest wine merchants in the Netherlands. It was an excellent prelude to the dinner that followed in the restaurant of Toine Hermsen. This famous chef proved in five courses that his two Michelin stars are well deserved.



The next day was dedicated to sightseeing in the morning, be it in the Bonnefantenmuseum, the limestone grottos, on a river cruise boat or just shopping in town. The relaxed start worked towards the gastronomic lunch in the Kruisherenhotel, a former church where the dining area is situated on a mezzanine floor added when it was redeveloped. After surprising amuse-bouches, a delicious veal tartare was one of the courses on the menu.



A moment of leisure time allowed everyone to get ready for the Induction Ceremony in La Bonbonniere, a former theatre. This beautiful venue literally formed the stage for 40 promotions and inductions of new members by Mohamed Hammam, Member of the Conseil d’Administration from Turkey.



The Gala Dinner was held at Château Neercanne, the very special Michelin-starred restaurant situated on the outskirts of Maastricht. Arriving at the venue, the Chaîne banner was already visible from the driveway, as a beacon for everybody. The banqueting room was situated in the cellar creating a special atmosphere in itself. The chef created tasteful and well-presented courses for the participants.



This was not the end of a gastronomic week-end as on the Sunday, coaches took us to the Michelin 2-star Restaurant Da Vinci in Maasbracht. Members of the Bailliage of Netherlands are familiar with this establishment. Once again expectations were exceeded. A six-course lunch was the perfect conclusion to a successful and enjoyable weekend.



The organisers received many enthusiastic comments from many of the participants. The Bailliage is already thinking ahead for the next Grand Chapitre in 2015, bearing in mind it will be a challenge to surpass this year’s event.
