Netherlands Dinner

Restaurant Reflet, the top restaurant of the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, was the venue for this dinner to commence our 2012 programme. The hotel is one of the notable buildings on Dam Square (‘The Dam’ as the locals call it), one of the most well-known and important locations in the city.

Officier Maître Hôtelier Heinz Imhof, together with his staff, hosted 54 members of our Bailliage for a delightful and memorable event. However, as a prelude to the delights of the evening, an afternoon guided tour was made of the Royal Palace, also on ‘the Dam’.



The Royal Palace is one of three palaces in the Netherlands which are at the disposal of Queen Beatrix. It was built as the Town Hall during the Dutch Golden Age in the seventeenth century. The building then became the royal palace of King Louis Napoleon and later of the Dutch Royal House.

After the visit we gathered in the Grand Hotel for champagne and canapés before beginning the remarkable dinner.



The menu and its perfectly-paired wines were:

Tartare of Gascony veal
Terras d’Uva 2010, TerraNova Wines (Alentejo, Portugal)

Warm soufflé of truffle and Emmental
Pinot Gris Reserve 2007, Trimbach (Alsace, France)

Pan-fried scallops with cauliflower-flavoured bisque
Saint Véran, Vieilles Vignes 2008, Cousin (Burgundy, France)

Confit of Duck with lentils and roasted beetroot in orange oil
Chianti Riserva 2008, Frescobaldi (Tuscany, Italy)

Trio of coffee desserts




Whilst we were enjoying the delightful food and wine, a pianist discreetly treated us to his beautiful music. It was a wonderful night of harmony and camaraderie.
