Spain Grand Chapitre

Ourense, February 3-5, 2012

An intense programme was the feature of this Grand Chapitre held in the Galician city of Ourense to coincide with the 13th Xantar Tourism and Gastronomy Fair held from February 1-5 at the Expourense exhibition centre.

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs was present at the fair thanks to our local Bailli, Jose Antonio Lopez Perez, who provided space on the stand for his hotel, Pazo de Barbeiron, a typical Galician country house built in 1740.

In this way we were able to promote the Chaîne to hospitality industry professionals and interested members of the public, therefore giving welcome support to our Bailli in developing the Confrérie in Galicia.

 

The Grand Chapitre programme commenced on the Friday with a tour of Ourense’s historical sites, especially those from the Roman era on the banks of the River Minho. In the evening there was a reception at the Xantar Salon of Gastronomy followed by dinner
at a restaurant.

On the Saturday there was a guided tour of Allariz, a large town with a significant old quarter about 20 minutes south of Ourense. In the evening, the Induction Ceremony at Expourense was presided over by Bailli Délégué Amable Prieto Montero, Member of the Conseil Magistral. As usual it was an elegant and formal occasion, highly appreciated by our newly-inducted members.

 

The choice by Bailli Jose Antonio Lopez Perez for the restaurant for the Gala Dinner was inspired. We dined and danced late into the evening. On the Sunday a visit to a thermal spa at Outariz was on offer.

This was a Grand Chapitre that was outstanding for its high quality showing as it did that Galicia is an area offering both excellent local produce and outstanding professional skills.
