South Africa Chapitre

Oubaai, June 23, 2012

Winter did not cool down the Bailliage of Outeniqua Chapitre!

The winter had properly set in on June 23rd when the annual Chapitre of the Bailliage of Outeniqua was staged at the Hyatt Regency in Oubaai.

When arriving at the hotel one is impressed by the presence of impressive permanent art exhibition sculptor Anton Smit’s larger-than-life sculptures in the garden and in the foyer. Throughout the interior the hotel boasts some of the best contemporary South African artists on show.

Inductees, members and their guests were welcomed in the bar for pre-Induction Ceremony drinks and canapés around the fireplace. As always the Chapitre had to compete with a rugby game, but it was heart-warming to see all turn up on time!

The Inducting Officer was Allison Rutowitz, Member Honoraire of the Conseil d’Administration, who as usual regaled all with her interesting telling of the Chaîne history. New members of the Ordre Mondial inducted by Bailli Délégué François Ferreira assisted by Nell-Marie le Roux, Vice-Echanson of Outeniqua.

After the ceremony everyone moved to the award-winning Waterside Grill for dinner. Executive Chef Markus Linder and his team created an adventurous menu:

- Scallop Carpaccio on potato gratin
     Boplaas Muscadel

- Risotto with black pudding sausage and foie gras foam
     Castle milk stout beer

- Roasted pear and crème fraîche

- Ox cheeks and beef medallion served on truffle mash
with Brussels sprouts salad and porcini

     Beyerskloof Pinotage

- Textures of Raspberries; Mousse gel and caviar; Chocolate coffee
Barry & Nephews 10yr Pot Still Brandy

Thank you to the Management under the leadership of General Manager Jaco le Roux, newly inducted as a Professional member, Executive Chef Markus Linder and his brigade, and the friendly front-of-house staff, for a truly memorable evening. Congratulations are also very much due to Bailli David Hyman and his team for a perfectly-organised Chapitre.

François Ferreira, Bailli Délégué
