Malaysia Dinner

Kuala Lumpur, April 13, 2013

Bailliage of Putrajaya

What a splendid evening we had at the Grand Palace Restaurant, the theme being “The Emperor’s Feast”!

The restaurant is in the Pavilion Complex situated at the heart of the Kuala Lumpur’s trendy Bukit Bintang district.

We fine wined and dined as in days of old in China. There was an excellent response with 98 members and guests, including some Ambassadors who were intrigued to find out more about the evening and the Chaîne in general.

Special attention to detail had been taken into consideration as we started with a delicious shellfish soup with cordyceps and fish maw! A rare delicacy and we were informed, extremely expensive into the bargain.

However, the highlight of the evening (apart from the spectacular Peking Duck) was the entrance of the enormous charcoal-roasted whole pig which was carried majestically into the Banquet Hall.

The glistening roasted pig was received with due ceremony by Datuk Dr J S Sambhi Bailli Délégué, K K Rajah. Bailli of Putrajaya, and Lam Tuck Loy, Chairman of the Restaurant Group, who is a Professional Chef member of the Chaîne in China. This illustrious trio performed the carving of the beast with ceremonial Chinese meat cleavers!

This exquisite dish was enthusiastically consumed by all, accompanied by a flute of Dom Perignon 2000 (only one shot, mind you!). The result was beyond words. One could almost hear the murmurs of satisfaction echoing through the hall.

We continued our way through Wagyu beef, braised whole abalone with lotus leaf rice and braised bean curd with mushrooms.

We were well satisfied with our menu, carefully-chosen wines, and were most enthusiastic with our congratulations when the kitchen brigade took centre stage. The Proprietor was beaming from ear to ear on presentation of the Chaîne plaque.

A fine evening was had by all. Should you be travelling our way, make a point to dine at the Grand Palace Restaurant before leaving Kuala Lumpur!
