Belgium Fundraising Weekend

Bailliage of Belgium
Ellezelles, June 21-23, 2019

An inspirational way to showcase the Chaîne
" We have been organising this event for a dozen years now "

The National Bailliage’s Fundraising Weekend is an annual event dedicated to the Chaîne that takes place at the Château du Mylord. It usually happens in June, with several sittings comprising four or five courses lunchtime or evening from Friday evening until Sunday.

Chaîne members and regular customers can enjoy a single menu at a discounted rate (five courses for €145 in 2019), in other words cheaper than the menus usually served at weekends.

To do this, we try to secure help and/or sponsorship from our usual suppliers, in the form of fish, meat and vegetables, as well as wine and other beverages. This enables us to collect around €15 per guest for the Chaîne, amounting to around €3,750 by the end of the weekend (+/- 250 guests x €15).

In the beginning, the weekend event was first and foremost a means of promoting and showcasing the Chaîne. It would usually lead to several new members joining every year.

Additionally, the money raised helps us cover the costs associated with organising the national Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition in Belgium. It also helps us prepare and fund our winning candidate who will take part in the international competition. If the money raised allows us, we also try to contribute to the ACCR (the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs’ charitable association).

We have been organising this event for a dozen years now and loyal customers have been coming back year after year since the first one.

Chef/Owner, Château du Mylord
(and Conseiller Culinaire of the Bailliage of Belgium)

Editor’s note: The Château du Mylord restaurant was founded by Jean-Baptiste Thomaes (Executive Chef) in 1981. He was soon joined by his brothers: Vincent from 1985 until 2006 (Restaurant Director and Sommelier), then Christophe, from 1988 until 2018 (Pastry Chef).

In 1987, Jean-Baptiste was awarded his first Michelin star, before receiving a second one for the first time in 2002 and then again in 2010.

The restaurant is delightfully housed in a former stately home built in 1861 by an English Lord and located in a park spread over 3 hectares. For more than thirty-five years Jean-Baptiste has continually striven to enhance the setting to turn it into a real haven of peace.
