Announcing the National Winner 2016

Ángel Omar García García will represent the National Bailliage in Manchester

Chef Ángel Omar García García was declared the overall winner for 2016 of Mexico’s “Thierry Blouet Trophy” and will therefore represent the National Bailliage at the International Final of the Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition in Manchester, England, on September 27th.

Ángel Omar García García and Mario Alonso Palomares Mendoza won first place respectively at the competitions held in Puerto Vallarta on February 16th and Guadalajara on February 19th.

The former was held in the kitchen the of Cafe des Artistes Restaurant, while in Guadalajara the competition was in the kitchens at the Universidad del Valle de Mexico Campus South.

The “black box” ingredients which the chefs had to use in their dishes were:

- Australian lobster in Puerto Vallarta / Assorted shellfish in Guadalajara
- Shank of beef
- Callebaut chocolate
- Feuilletine

The judges agreed that Ángel Omar, who has been working for four years in the Hotel Grand Velas where he is in charge of the kitchen at the Selva del Mar Restaurant, would be the overall national winner.

Mario Alonso, who has spent the last 5 years as Sous Chef at Cafe des Artistes and was the winner of an international competition organized annually by the restaurant, will be the reserve chef to represent Mexico.
