Burgundy mystique
" Honoured guests and regular attendees all agreed that it was an exceptional event! "

Thirty Chicago and Lake Shore Bailliage members participated in a fabulous Société Mondiale du Vin® ( Ed. The Bailliage of USA equivalent of the international Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs – OMGD ) Burgundy wine tasting and a delightful Burgundy-themed dinner at the Union League Club of Chicago.

During the tasting, a stellar line up of eight Burgundies was poured (three white and five red) highlighting differences in terroir, microclimate and vintages.

Our expert guide was Johnson Ho, proprietor of Pantheon Wine Shoppe in Northbrook, Illinois, and an internationally noted Burgundy expert.

His wit, charm and intimate knowledge of the region, its history, culture and, of course, wines turned this first “Mondiale” event in the 50th anniversary year of the Bailliage of Chicago into a memorable affair that was both highly educational and entertaining.

Union League Club Executive Chef Michael Garbin then prepared a special dinner for our group.
