World Chaîne Day

April 23, 2016

24 hours of events around the world

Now established in the month of April, World Chaîne Day 2016 built on the success of the inaugural international event held in September 2015.

From breakfast in New Zealand to sunset cocktails on the Cook Islands, on the same day Chaîne members around the world once again celebrated being part of the oldest and largest gastronomy association.

However not only was it a celebration within the Confrérie, the Day has the additional aim of increasing the strength, respect and public image of the association with a special emphasis on promoting establishments awarded the Chaîne Professionals Plaque.

You will no doubt recall that “World Chaîne Day” was conceived in 2014 by two Baillis in Finland as a day each year dedicated to promote all things Chaîne. The concept caught the imagination of all the Finnish Bailliages and it became a national event. Interest was immediately aroused in Bailliages internationally leading it going worldwide in 2015.

Given the extra notice of the date, this year there were many more events formally organised by Bailliages. Reports of several of these have already been published on this Chaîne News On-line website.

Nevertheless there were still plenty of individual member and local Bailliage initiatives evidenced by the plethora of postings on Facebook and the other social media.

In concluding his review of this year’s event, Ari-Pekka Parviainen, the Member of the Conseil d'Administration who coordinates World Chaîne Day, enthused, “Thank you to all the Bailliages and the members around the world who participated in the 2016 Day! Much appreciation is also due to Secretary-General Philippe Desgeorges for maintaining the international Chaîne website and for providing the stats. And not forgetting International Vice-President Marie Jones whose support in general and through the Chaîne News On-line website in particular is most valuable.”

Encouraged by this year’s resounding success, Ari-Pekka and his team in Finland (principally Stana Porvali and Johanna Hornborg) are already planning to raise the bar of expectations for the next World Chaîne Day1.

Vive la Chaîne!
