The Bailliage’s second OMGD event for the year, held at the House of Blues & Jazz, one of the earliest jazz restaurants in Shanghai, had “Discovering the wines of Burgundy” as its theme.

The House of Blues & Jazz is situated in a two-storey historic property located just a block from the famous Bund. The dark wood interior is reminiscent of an old English tavern and created a very cosy environment for this dinner.

A selection of eight wines from Burgundy was chosen for our delight. These were accompanied by a classic menu featuring cod and rib-eye steak.

Relatively small so far but growing fast, the OMGD membership in Shanghai was greeted by the enthusiastic attendance of other Chaîne members packing the dining room with members eager to learn more about the wines of Burgundy. Present on the evening was Lin Dongfu, proprietor of the House of Blues & Jazz, a Chaîne member and well-known actor in China.

Vice-Échanson Andy Tan prepared an in-depth presentation on not only the wines but the history, soils, and classification of Burgundy. Members listened to Andy’s informative presentation while tasting the wines accompanied by a delicious dinner.

After dinner members enjoyed the live jazz with many continuing the evening’s pleasures with cigars and whiskies.

Burgundy wines are truly worth exploring and the world that awaits those that have the patience (and money) is truly amazing but in the end it was the people that made the evening really memorable.
