The spirit of Chaîne manifested itself with superb foods complemented by excellent wines experienced with the camaraderie of members and guests as Hong Kong hosted its first Gala Induction night in the Grand Ballroom at the five-star InterContinental Hong Kong Hotel.
Opening the Gala evening, Chaîne regalia and awards were presented at the Induction Ceremony for which we had the honour of the presence of International Vice-President Marie Jones as Maître de Cérémonie. Visible during the event was the wonderful skyline view of Hong Kong.
As a prelude to the Gala dinner, members and their guests were welcomed with hors d'oeuvres including caviar, unique Chinese baby pork buns, and a very special cheese presentation made from milk produced by a flock of rare-breed sheep in Italy owned by the hotel’s Executive Chef. These were complemented with champagne.
The dinner featured a spectacular banquet of gastronomic “East meets West” delicacies and specialities created by Executive Chef Nicola Canuti and 2-star Michelin Chinese Chef Lau Yiu Fai. All the courses were matched with outstanding wines.
Everyone attending received a commemorative Chaîne luggage strap and Gold Rooster to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Pomp and ceremony were a significant part of the evening. Pipers led VIPs and Council Members into the Grand Ballroom and as an interlude, a classic Chinese “Face Changing” act was performed. To conclude, the kitchen and service brigades were recognised and Awards of Appreciation were presented.
The following night was a first ever “Chaîne Night at the Races” held in a private horse owners’ box at the prestigious Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Sha Tin Racecourse. Indeed, a fantastic night of camaraderie with an outstanding international buffet, select wines and cigars. Win or lose at the track, all were winners through sharing in a memorable Chaîne night together.
