World Chaîne Day is very special in Finland as the idea originated here. Furthermore, this year the country is celebrating 100 years of independence making two high profile events on one day.

During the day many different types of events were organized but with one common factor. Everyone, not just members, could participate, enjoy great tastes and learn more about the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

In Finland, we celebrate and promote the Chaîne as well as our great variety of gastronomy. This is why so many tastings and dinners are open for everyone. Our professional members go to meet people in food shops and market places. A special event is organized for children so they can taste different flavours and learn about table manners.

One of the dinners was organized in Tampere, the home city for the World Chaîne Day (Ed. see separate article). The other principal event was a Chapitre in Helsinki themed the “Chapitre of Knights”. 100 members gathered to enjoy a memorable historic dinner at the Restaurant Sipuli.

Before dinner, 50 new members received their ribbons at the Induction Ceremony presided over by Chancelier Juha Ojamo in his capacity as a Member of the Conseil Magistral. There is definitely no better way to join the Chaîne than on the day of global celebrations!

Finnish flavours were centre stage at the dinner. Starting with mushroom soup the main course was roasted deer. Dessert included apple tartare and ice cream. Lots of laughter and smiles were in evidence as it was a very enjoyable way of celebrating World Chaîne Day.

Events elsewhere in Finland were clearly focused on Finnish gastronomy but did not overlook international aspects. The innovative “Social Media Wall” instantly shared images all over Finland whilst following celebrations in other countries.

Truly unique, World Chaîne Day enables all countries to celebrate both the Chaîne and local gastronomic traditions. We are very proud to have introduced the day and are excited that it has expanded worldwide.
