Malaysia 40th Anniversary Grand Chapitre

Bailliage of Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, October 20-22, 2017

What a celebration it was!
" an extraordinary 40th Anniversary Grand Chapitre that will live long in the memories "

The Bailliage celebrated its auspicious 40th anniversary with a whole weekend of festivities orchestrated by its Bailli Délégué, Datuk Dr Jagjit Singh Sambhi, himself a founder member of the Bailliage in 1977. We were privileged to have International Vice-President Marie Jones as our guest of honour and Inducting Officer.

The three days of festivities began on a balmy Friday evening with an informal dinner at the lovely residence of Bailli Délégué Sambhi and his wife, Vice-Chargée de Presse Datin Margaret Sambhi. The menu was exquisitely created by a team from Le Cordon Bleu Malaysia under the direction of the school’s General Manager, Ming Ho, and its Technical Director, Chef Rôtisseur Rodolphe Onno.

Among the unique fare was Chef Onno’s famous “stuffed quail with local durian fruit” - an amazing meld of ‘East meets West’! Live stations comprised: scallops and oysters, assorted terrines of fish, vegetables and foie gras, delectable cold sliced beef, monkfish à l’armoricaine, rosemary-stuffed shoulder of lamb, ratatouille (of course!), an aromatic cheese selection and a delightful buffet of desserts.

This sumptuous dinner was washed down with luscious Laurent Robert NV Champagne, Domaine Delobel Sauvignon from the Loire Valley, Bergerac ‘Château de Lafont’, Calvados and VSOP Cognac.

Saturday saw the Induction Ceremony and Gala Dinner at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). It was a most appropriate occasion to renew our Oath to the Chaîne, welcome new members and celebrate promotions within the Bailliage. Besides Chaîne members, new and old, from throughout Malaysia, others came from as far afield Myanmar, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Thailand!

After a generous champagne reception, members and guests were treated to a cornucopia of opulence and beauty in the KLCC’s Banquet Hall to complement the beautiful drink and food to come. Bailli Délégué Sambhi opened the dinner with a fascinating history of the National Bailliage, whereupon Executive Chef Hisham and his tireless brigade delivered an unforgettable evening! Wines were specially selected by Chancelier Alan Pryor who is also the KLCC’s General Manager.

During the evening, long-serving and devoted members were presented with medal awards, before Marie Jones presented a commemoration gift to the Bailliage acknowledging an extraordinary 40th Anniversary Grand Chapitre that will live long in the memories of those in attendance. Many diners remained late to enjoy fine liqueurs and the music!

Concluding the programme was Sunday’s informal champagne lunch at L’Heritage in the Royale Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur. A select group of stalwart Chaîne members, especially the Sarawak contingent, enjoyed Executive Chef Sabri Soid’s 10-course fusion twist on western and eastern fare. The banquet was harmonised with Moët et Chandon and Louis Roederer Champagnes and other fine wines! All agreed this could well have been a resplendent meal set for Royalty!

The weekend truly was a magnificent occasion and an exemplary way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the National Bailliage!

Vive la Chaîne!
