For the 15th occasion since the Bailliage was founded, Phuket members and guests gathered to celebrate the induction of new and promoted members. This time the annual event was held at the Hyatt Regency Resort Phuket.

Our own Member of the Conseil Magistral, Khun Joe Thawilvejjakul, travelled from Bangkok to preside over the ceremony.

A special guest was Christopher Thein Win Tu from the newly-formed Bailliage of Myanmar who came to be inducted both as a Chevalier in the Chaîne and as a member of the Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs (OMGD).

After the ceremonies, it was cocktails in the foyer. Chalong Bay Rum had set up a stall and for those seeking something less strong, there was champagne. A selection of canapés was served by the Hyatt staff. A favourite was definitely the tartare.

The occasion included 21 members and 11 guests. During the reception everyone had their photo taken in front of the Chaîne emblem and then it was time for dinner in the beautifully-decorated private dining room.

The menu consisted of Italian inspired dishes, which was no surprise as the new Chef at the Hyatt is Mario Caramella, a renowned Italian chef who founded and is still President of the global community of Italian chefs, GVCI, with more than 2,000 members in 70 countries.

There were some special wines for this occasion some of which had been gifted to us by Hans Peter at Black Forest Wines and from Khun Nikki at GranMonte.

It was a truly enjoyable night and a delicious dinner with great wines. Many thanks to everyone: staff, members and their guests who made this evening memorable.

Phuket can still count three active members (Thomas Brack, Sue Ultmann and Peter Smith) who participated in the first ever Chapitre. Despite the usual ups and downs during the 15 years of the Bailliage’s existence, through dedication and perseverance by the Council and members the Bailliage has gone from strength to strength.

In the beginning there were few suitable restaurants meaning just four dining events each year. As for now, the possibilities have never been better to have wonderful dinners in a large number of locations such has been the development of Phuket as a resort.
