Dining with the Marines at the Saxon Hotel
" Members, guests, and VIPs concluded the evening with thoughts of festive cheer and looking forward to the New Year "

Members and guests celebrated a Festive Gala Dinner at the Saxon Hotel, Spa & Villas, in honour of US Marines who could not be with their families over the holiday season.

Among the 51 attendees were seven US Marines led by Staff Sergeant Jonathon Braun. The Bailliage took the opportunity to help the Marines in their annual toy drive for the Toys for Tots Foundation. Each year Toys for Tots collects new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to under-privileged children during the holiday period. As a result over 60 toys were donated on the night.

Bailli William Perry took the opportunity to recognize seven members who had attended four or more events during 2017.  They were awarded a Certificate of Good Standing and a bottle of South African sparkling wine. After the presentation a video, organized by member Llewelyn Marais and Kegan Buckley, reviewing the Bailliage’s year was played.

In honour of the Marines and the South African guests, Aubrey Mervin Lodewyk beautifully sang the national anthems of both the United States and South Africa. We then proceeded to the highlight of the evening being a menu prepared by Sous Chef Trevor Chikaura.
