Korea Dinner

Bailliage of Korea
Seoul, January 27, 2018

Creativity, quality and colour at the Seoul Dragon City
" David Artigue ... and his great team enthralled us with a splendid culinary journey around Monet's world of colours "

The Bailliage launched its 2018 programme at the Seoul Dragon City hosted by Maître Hôtelier Jérôme Stubert, Seoul Dragon City Cluster General Manager.

Seoul Dragon City is Korea’s first-ever lifestyle hotel-plex. It features four Accor Hotels’ brands with a world first: four floors of entertainment in a Sky Kingdom suspended between two of the towers.

On arrival members and their guests were greeted with a glass of Champagne Perrier-Jouët and crunchy, colourful macaron tartlets. Everyone was invited to exercise their artistic talents by signing their name “Monet-style” with paint brushes on a huge white canvas, while an accordionist played cheerful tones in the background.

The dinner tables were artfully decorated with palettes and surprising empty picture frames in front of each plate setting. A dab of paint on the frame using brushes at the setting and magically the menu appeared!

David Artigue, Cluster Director of Food and Beverage, and his great team enthralled us with a splendid culinary journey around Monet’s world of colours. Members and their numerous guests happily chatted away and enjoyed the beautifully-presented succession of colours, flowers, creative textures and flavours.

Two art students from Sookmyung University re-created two of Monet’s famous paintings during the dinner. A small band played lively tunes. The dynamic dancing couple graciously and with much spirit evolved on the dance floor. All the while, in the background, Monet’s paintings were shown on a giant screen.

The menu progressed from confit of smoked duck foie gras, to steamed scallops, goat’s cheese terrine, apple sorbet, beef with crushed mustard seeds and on to dessert. Appropriate champagne and wines matched each course.

The velvety rose dessert was a feast for the eyes and the palate. It was perfectly complemented by a superb Calvados ‘Château du Breuil’.

This first dinner of 2018 was the occasion for Bailli Délégué Bernhard Brender to introduce the National Council and in particular welcome its three new young members.

Creativity, quality and colours were the high notes of the event. It has set the bar high for the year. We concluded by wishing Jérôme Stubert all the best for the future given that he is off to pastures new.
