OMGD Spain Dinner

Bailliage of Spain
Madrid, February 8, 2018

Marrying classic Iberian food with fine Spanish wines

We started our 2018 programme in the Bailliage of Madrid with an Ordre Mondial dinner at Chaîne member establishment, Mesón Gallego II, in the city’s Plaza de la Remonta. The event matched the restaurant’s fine food with the outstanding wines of Viña Farnadas (Ribeiro) and Tudanca (Ribera del Duero).

Faustino López prepared a special menu and the wines were introduced by Javier Pozo Caballero, who is a professional Sommelier and new member of the Bailliage of Spain.

MENU

‘A cocktail of Iberian products’
Roasted peppers with bonito
Deep-fried squid
Sanabria-style octopus
Whitebait set in whisked egg
Crab from the Galician estuaries

Hake delights
Sirloin with garlic

Dessert selection
Coffee and liqueurs

Accompanying the selection of tasty dishes comprising the first course were a white wine, Viña Farnadas 2014, and a red wine, Tudanca Crianza 2012.

With the main course dishes we very much enjoyed Tudanca Vendimia Seleccionada 2010, a round, warm, full-bodied red wine. On the nose, there was a predominance of red fruits, and balsamic as well as traces of liquorice and vanilla.

The desserts and coffees were accompanied by “Chatitas de Madrid”, a typical Madrid sweet the name of which comes from the Infanta Isabel de Borbón y Borbón, also known as “La Chata”.

During the evening we raised funds for the Fundación Menudos Corazones, a non-profit organization which helps children with heart problems and their families through comprehensive hospital care and day-to-day support at home. A magnum of Champagne Ayala with a set of champagne glasses silk-screened with the Chaîne logo was also raffled.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner, where each dish was accompanied with its corresponding wine and where friendship and camaraderie reigned, how could it be otherwise!

Bringing the evening to a close, Bailli Délégué Rosa Román thanked Legado Español for the magnificent EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) presented at the tables and GreenMancha Eco for its artisan cheeses made in Castilla la Mancha with black garlic.

The principal “thank yous” were naturally reserved for the wineries and the restaurant. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to acknowledge the pleasure they had brought to all present.

We look forward to many more events such as this one!

Vive la Chaîne!
