Myanmar Golf Tournament & Barbecue

Bailliage of Myanmar
Yangon, February 16, 2018

18 holes of food and wine

The Bailliage’s first golf tournament and barbecue was a bittersweet event: joyful and sunny for the golfers and a sad farewell to our Chancelier Sandy MacAlister who is leaving Myanmar, with his wife Lydia, after three years as Pun Hlaing Golf & Country Club’s General Manager.

Arriving late morning, 20 enthusiastic Chaîne golfers gathered at the Pun Hlaing Golf and Country Club to participate in the tournament despite the fact it was a normal Friday. The day’s refreshments for the golfers began with a Bloody Mary on the 1st hole. They then proceeded with the drive. Paulaner Shandies and Ice Tea “à la John Daly” followed finishing with a classic “Bobby Jones”.

The buggies were stocked with snacks and beer. Furthermore, the three houses at the 5th, 10th and 15th holes had good supplies of champagne and wine.

Eventually completing the round, the golfers quickly headed for the showers, returning in time to join the non-golfers for cocktails and our very first Bailliage barbecue.

Delectable food prepared by Philippe Seiler, Executive Chef of the Country Club, was served alongside the green and enjoyed by members.

Wines on offer included Duval Leroy Brut Champagne, Villa Sandi Fresco Prosecco DOC, Marchesi di Barolo Roero Arneis DOCG 2015, Umberto Fiore Barolo 2012 and Cockburn’s Special Reserve Port.

By the end of the evening, members could just about remember who had won the competition. That was secondary as they had all come for the food, wine and warm fellowship in the finest traditions of the Chaîne!
