Gastronomic oriental discovery trip at Restaurant O & O
" a succession of culinary highlights "

On a bleak winter day, due to some cancellations through illness eventually 39 members and their guests, including two who had been on the waiting list, came to Restaurant O & O.

Welcoming us on arrival were Helena Tsang and her daughters, Monica and Wendy. They ensured we quickly had a glass of delicious Piemonte Spumante, made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, and three amuses-bouches which clearly reflected the oriental fusion character of the restaurant.

The lunch itself was a succession of culinary highlights starting with yellowfin tuna with langoustine tartare and among others soya and mirin matcha was an excellent combination. A Sylvaner from Germany fitted in perfectly.

As an intermediate dish Mangalitsa pork was served with a selection of eastern and western ingredients including truffles. Alberaia from Tuscany made for a perfect pairing.

For the main course there was a choice between young venison or Black Angus steak. Most guests chose the former and perfectly cooked it was too. The wine selected by Sommelier Monica was Valpolicella Ripasso 2014 from Accordini in the Veneto. It too was a perfect choice combining as it did so well with the stronger flavours of the venison.

The dessert of foxberry, lime, semi-freddo Valrhona and Manjari chocolate melted on the tongue. The Tschida Beerenauslese from the Burgenland in Austria was just sweet enough to match the dessert.

Bailli Délégué Gerrit de Kiewit and Wim Sluijter, Bailli of South Netherlands, warmly complimented the Tsang family members together with other staff members in the kitchen and service brigades for the culinary highlights and the perfect service delivered to us during this lunch.
