Many memorable evenings as a Chaîne member

Leo Ip’s Chaîne journey: he joined as a Chevalier in 2000 in Jakarta; 2005 promoted to Officier whilst in Singapore; currently is a Grand Officier within the Bailliage of Shanghai since the Chapitre held on December 14, 2013, in Shanghai where he received his promotion.

How did this all come about? Leo takes up the story starting in 1995.

In Canada, I received a phone call from my Ecolab home office on a very cold, snowy afternoon, asking us to move to Indonesia. At that time, we had no idea where Jakarta was!

We arrived there with our two children, Sean 2 years and Chris 6 weeks old. It turned out to be a life-long experience during which I have learnt and grown. It certainly shaped my career path with Ecolab.

Ecolab is the global leader in water, hygiene and energy technologies and services. Around the world businesses in food service, food processing, hospitality, healthcare, industrial, oil and gas markets choose Ecolab products and services to keep their environment clean and safe, operate efficiently and achieve sustainability goals.
 
In 1997 I was invited to my first Chaîne des Rôtisseurs dinner shortly after I was inducted in Jakarta. For the next three years, my wife Carol and I attended almost every dinner in Jakarta and in Bali. Imagine a black-tie dinner in the humid Bali climate but it worked perfectly.
 
Having first been relocated to Singapore from 2000 to 2006, I moved to Shanghai from 2006 to 2010 and have been office-based in Hong Kong ever since.
 
For someone who loves food, wine and cigars, where else can you find such a well-organized group as the Chaîne who share and appreciate the values of quality, creativity of the culinary arts, dinner themes and the excellent company at the table? Here, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who works behind the scenes, planning and organizing each event.
 
I have made friends worldwide in various industries, from amateurs to professionals and dignitaries to royalty. Together we’ve shared many memorable evenings and look forward to sharing many more!
