OMGD Austria Dinner

Bailliage of Haute Autriche, Austria
Linz, July 20, 2018

Beef and wine

One of the most beautiful rooftop terraces in Austria is “rooftop 7” in Linz, capital of Upper Austria. The view over the city’s rooftops, the great ambiance and magnificent weather promised a wonderful evening.

The choice of red wines was made by Maître Hôtelier Michael Nell and Échanson Provincial Gundula Kroy-Maaß. Executive Chef Dieter Gütlbauer served a duet of beef from the barbecue.

Josef Docket Brut Rosé 2014 stimulated at the reception due its fresh acidity and discreet fruit as well as the lively mousse.

Served from magnums, the opening wine, La Massa 2013, was supple with dense berry fruit. It was a perfect companion to the smoked salmon tartare and the pink garden duck breast fillet.

The spicy with ripe fruit Sodi di San Niccolo 2012 from Castellare was very harmonious with the Chianina* steak. The second wine with the meat, Pieve Santa Restituta di Gaja Brunello di Montalcino 2013, was juicy, dense with wonderful fruit sweetness.

With the Charolais fillet we experienced two wines from Spain: Numanthia Reserva 2012 from the Toro region which was very complex with intense spice and dark berries. The Protos Gran Reserva 2011 from the Duero showed lots of ripe berry fruit offset by soft tannins.

The dessert, a Calabrian lemon tart, was accompanied by Masi’s Costasera Amarone Classico 2012 which had a most harmonious effect with its intense fruit sweetness.

This very successful evening received a lot of praise and recognition from all the members and their guests.
