Portugal 45th Anniversary Grand Chapitre

Bailliage of Portugal
Lisbon, October 11-13, 2018

Attended by a wonderful mix of nationalities
" We had the pleasure of the presence of about 50 international visitors "

The Portuguese capital, Lisbon, is the largest city in the country. Lisbon is the city where the cuisine presents a thousand ways to cook fresh wild fish, in traditional Portuguese versions, or inspired by modern cuisine. The gastronomy of the capital harmonizes with the excellent wines of our country. A modern capital, where old habits and secular history combine with cultural animation and technological innovation, Lisbon is timeless.

Thus it was decided that the National Bailliage’s 45th Anniversary Grand Chapitre, the most important event in the annual calendar let alone being a special anniversary, was held in Lisbon.

We had the pleasure of the presence of about 50 international visitors from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. This wonderful mix of nationalities is proof that our gastronomic association is a proactive element of great importance for the promotion of tourism in Portugal.

During the programme the members and guests discovered the emblematic points of the capital in comfort and tranquillity. All the while there were opportunities to discover the flavours of Lisbon.

Forty-eight people were inducted or received a special distinction at the Induction Ceremony held at the Altis Grand Hotel. Dr Roberto Zanghi, who is a Member of the Conseil Magistral, came especially from Italy to represent President Yam Atallah as Inducting Officer. The inductees included the newly appointed Swiss Ambassador, the President of the Altis Hotel group and several non-resident participants who had chosen to come to Portugal to receive their new ribbon or an award.

The ceremony was followed by a reception and gastronomic dinner. As well as the fine food prepared by Chef Ricardo and his brigade, the Gala evening featured fado entertainment and dancing.

Each Bailliage event in Portugal contributes to our "Gastronomy School" in Évora, an institution of vocational education for disadvantaged young people, fully funded by the Chaîne under the patronage of HRH Prince Charles-Philippe d'Orléans, Duc d’Anjou, and of HRH the Princess d’Orléans, Duchess d'Anjou and Cadaval. In fact, the day before the Gala evening, we were graciously received at the Palacio de Cadaval for a typical Alentejo lunch presided by HRH the Princess and her mother, the Duchess of Cadaval.
