South Africa Chapitre

Bailliage of Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town, November 24, 2018

Spectacular event at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel
" The Bailliage certainly saw out 2018 in style "

The luxurious Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel is set amidst glorious park-like gardens in the heart of Cape Town with Table Mountain forming an imposing backdrop. One hundred years ago this November it was painted pink for peace to mark the end of the First World War.

A fitting setting therefore for the Chapitre to celebrate the induction of a new Board for the Bailliage. Colin Jordaan was welcomed as the new Bailli with three members being added to his committee.

The hotel’s Planet Room was decorated in black and gold for the occasion, with centrepieces of white flowers and greenery creating a sophisticated effect. Adding to the spectacle it was an honoured to have the attendance of the Bailli Délégué of Austria, Norbert Simon, who is a Member of the International Board, and other international guests.

During the Induction Ceremony, the prestigious Chaîne Silver Award was presented to Bailli Délégué Honoraire François Ferreira for his outstanding contribution to the Chaîne. Two members received Commandeur status, while 19 received the newly introduced Commandeur Silver pins to mark 10 years of membership. Cape Town’s strong professional membership was enhanced with the induction or promotion of 13 members.

Chef Rudi Liebenberg, a long-time former member of the Chaîne with more than 26 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, did not disappoint with his menu.

After delicious canapés and sparkling wine had been served in the garden, guests were treated to a tasty prawn and calamari starter and a perfectly-cooked main course of lamb done three ways. The highlight was the Cremalat Gorgonzola mousse that formed part of the cheese course.

Thanks go to Saronsberg and Bridge of Hope for sponsoring the wines, and Vivreau, a subsidiary of Sun GrandWest, for providing the water. Thanks also go to Garry Reed, General Manager of Southern Sun The Cullinan Hotel and Gavin Withers for providing auction prizes that raised funds for future events and initiatives.

The Bailliage certainly saw out 2018 in style and now looks forward to a successful 2019.
