Fest of Ales Barbecue

“Nothing’s better than a cold beer in summer” was a compliment that reverberated throughout the joyful exchanges at the Bailliage’s “Fest-of-Ales” Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs (OMGD) event. Indeed, the deliberately casual gathering was designed to herald the notorious hot summer of Tianjin with both freshness and energy.

The ambience could not have been more ideal. Clear skies and stars above, colourful plants and flowers all around and a richly-decorated long wooden table with plenty of camaraderie.

Canapés (Iberico ham and honey melon; cherry foie gras with truffle; salmon with beetroot and caviar; guacamole) were accompanied by assorted cocktails and 2012 Select Parcel Sparkling Brut from South-east Australia.

On the garden terrace of Browns Bar & Restaurant - an upscale British pub remodelled from a stand-alone European mansion of historic status - abundant cheers and laughter mingled with sizzling food and gourmet craft beers. The only distraction was occasional applause for the live band and the inspiring stories behind the beers.

Australian-trained Chef Steven Zhang’s menu was thoughtfully crafted to fit the unique characteristics and flavours of each type of beer. There were three types freshly made by We Brewery, one of the most talented craft breweries in Tianjin.
