Australia Chapitre

Bailliage of Australia
Sydney, November 19, 2019

A roaring success
" There was a noticeable joie de vivre amongst the 80 plus members and guests attending "

The Bailliage celebrated its Gala Induction event at the stylish InterContinental Hotel in Double Bay. There was a noticeable joie de vivre amongst the 80 plus members and guests attending.

The evening commenced with the Bailliage’s AGM, followed by very well-deserved commendations and inductions presided over by Bailli Délégué Norm Harrison in his capacity as a Member of the Conseil Magistral.

Bailli Sam Giddings ensured the night was a roaring success by chairing the AGM, assisting with the Inductions and leading his officers in ensuring that the night was a seamless, memorable experience.

All members and guests received a pin for attending the event. Members also received a specially-commissioned pin to acknowledge their ongoing contribution and support.

The five-course, produce-driven menu, co-ordinated by InterContinental’s General Manager Conseiller Culinaire Honoraire Ralf Bruegger, had a theme of “Native, Organic, and Regional”.  Regional products were augmented with native fauna and flora in a modern, respectful and interpretive way.

Introduced in French by Vice-Échanson Susan Middleton, the French-style wines by De Beaurepaire, based in Rylstone, complemented the food beautifully. Winemaker Will de Beaurepaire held the audience captive with his passionate and knowledgeable presentation.

During the evening members and their guests were entertained by a live jazz band. Everyone enjoyed participating in a silent auction that raised much needed funds for both our young Chefs and Sommeliers competition.

Andres Aragon, Bronze Medal winner at the 2019 Final of the International Jeunes Sommeliers Competition, was warmly acknowledged for his outstanding effort.

Through the amazing goodwill of Will de Beaurepaire of De Beaurepaire Wines who donated a dozen premium back vintage wines over AUS$5,000 was raised on the night for bushfire and drought relief which is currently ravaging Australia.

The Chapitre provided the opportunity to reflect on the many successful events organised in 2019. The Bailliage Council also announced a very innovative programme for members in 2020 to develop sustainable growth and promote Bailliage values with the National vision very much driving the core values of its agenda.
