Kenya East Africa Weekend

Bailliage of Kenya
Mombasa (Kenya), November 29 - December 1, 2019

Joint event for Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda
" All three events in the programme were fully booked "

The third annual “East Africa Chaîne Weekend” was a resounding success with members attending from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and from Turkey!

All three events in the programme were fully booked.

Friday
The weekend started with an informal dinner on the famous Tamarind Dhow.
There was an optional dress code theme of “Arabic/Aladdin”. It was heart-warming to see so many attendees in costume!

A welcome drink of Prosecco and house speciality ‘dawa' were served as well as a variety of canapes. We also enjoyed the oyster bar with Bloody Mary shots! A stunning sunset framed the dhow as members made their way onboard through an atmospheric tunnel garlanded in fresh frangipani flowers. Arabic music throughout the evening complimented the theme.

Saturday
The formal dinner at the Tamarind Restaurant was an immediate sell out due to the establishment’s reputation of hosting breath-taking Chaîne events. At the reception a multitude of exquisitely-presented canapes was offer - including sushi, octopus, fresh oysters on ice, spiced polenta cubes and crab/shrimp cones. Palates were thoroughly aroused before the dinner!

An elegant ambience was enhanced by a live band playing a perfectly-assembled playlist.

Wines were well paired with each course and the simultaneous service was flawless!

A performance by Alberto Lazzeris, Mombasa’s very own opera singer and Chaîne member, was one of the many highlights of this amazing evening! Unique gifts presented to all the members were received with appreciation.

General Manager Bilha Mucuha, Vice-Chargée de Missions (Mombasa), together with Chef Mike Egesa and Food and Beverage Manager Henry did an outstanding job this evening!

Sunday
Members and guests set off on an air-conditioned bus for Nomads at The Sails on the gorgeous South Coast beach. Prosecco and freshly-prepared bruschetta canapes were served on board.

Waiting to receive us with their traditional warmth were Manager Richard Glaser, Maître Restaurateur, and his wife Claudia. Stations were set up with different cocktails under traditional coastal design print umbrellas and sunscreens. The imaginative coastal theme was extended throughout including the table décor.

Lunch was an exceptional experience enjoyed with a fantastic view of the Indian Ocean and cheerful background music provided by the live band.

The afternoon passed by far too quickly and with a final group photo next to the 'Chaîne' dhow and resident camel it was time to return to Mombasa.

Fully satiated from three days of spectacular food, typical coastal warmth and hospitality most members caught up with the lack of sleep on the way back!

Memories of the weekend will certainly stay in the minds of everyone who attended this East Africa Chaîne Weekend.
