Kenya World Chaîne Day

Bailliage of Kenya
Nairobi & Mombasa, April 25, 2020

Apart yet together with joy and warmth
" I am very proud that .. members in Kenya played an outstanding, significant role "

Members chose to mark World Chaîne Day in their own individual styles during this unfortunate coronavirus pandemic.

Due to restrictions celebrations were confined to very small numbers and mostly in individual homes. Despite this World Chaîne Day brought joy and warmth amongst members.

Below are reports on particular activities in Nairobi and Mombasa.

I am very proud that all Chaîne members in Kenya played an outstanding, significant role in various capacities by lending a helping hand to assist towards various funds to counter the pandemic.

With World Chaîne Day taking on a new persona this year members the world over were encouraged to “be active, creative and raise spirits”.

Members decided that since they were forced by circumstances to miss the much anticipated Gala Dinner they would raise community spirits in other ways. Particularly by contributing the money they would have spent on the dinner to a home for disadvantaged children.

The money was used to buy a month’s supply of food for the 108 children supported by the “Aswani Kizito Project of Hope”. The vision of this community based organisation is “to create an enabling and safe environment for orphaned children from Kawangware slums to be supported in a home that cares for their well-being and give them the basic tools to become self-sufficient as they attain adulthood.”

Bailli Victor Gitobu made the presentation to Aswani who runs the home. The handover ceremony was carried out - in accordance with social distancing guidelines - on behalf of the Bailliage of Nairobi with Victor and Aswani wearing their World Chaîne Day masks!! The children expressed their gratitude by creating posters of gratitude which were shared with members electronically by video link.

Chaîne members around the city also upheld the Chaîne spirit by holding informal family celebrations in the comfort of their homes.

To bring joy and cheer into the homes of our members, the Bailliage distributed special sanitised food gift hampers which were delivered to all the members to mark the occasion.

Some members proudly used every item in the gift hamper for the celebratory dinner which made it extra special!

Champagne breakfast on the beach, a barbecue in the wild, home cocktails and dinners were held.

Curious animals looking into the gift hampers as well as a bold ostrich helping itself to Champagne made for an unforgettable experience!

We look forward to the next World Chaîne Day with no social restrictions and to enjoying the phenomenal camaraderie of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs!

Vive la Chaîne!
