'Cook at home' competition results
" all members could participate by cooking at home and submitting their pictures for the chance to win prizes "

This year we had to celebrate World Chaîne Day in a very special way by sharing the fun of cooking with family and at the same time sharing it globally.

In China, we organised a ‘cook at home’ competition in which all members could participate by cooking at home and submitting their pictures for the chance to win prizes.

In addition to those interested in entering the competition in some cities we arranged to have dinners for small gatherings at which members could enjoy a meal without cooking.

The ‘cook at home’ competition had three categories:
- Best Western-style menu
- Best Chinese-style menu
- Best party spirit

Those who were cooking had to following a specific menu designed by Conseiller Culinaire Alan Orreal so that all entries could be judged ‘on the same page’.

There were about 30 competitors, including members from Chongqing, Shenzhen and Qingdao. We also extended the invitation to participate to members in the neighbouring National Bailliage of Macau SAR China. All local competitors, in addition to winning a local prize, had the chance to win a National Bailliage cash prize for each of the categories.

The National winners were:

Best Western Menu
Gold Medal: Echo Ren (Shanghai) - cash prize RMB 1,500 (US$210)
Silver Medal: Marco Cheung (Shenzhen) - cash prize RMB 1,000 (US$140)
Bronze Medal: Jean Baptiste (Shenzhen) - cash prize RMB 500 (US$70)

Best Chinese Menu
Gold Medal: Helen Choi (Shenzhen) - cash prize RMB 1,500
Silver Medal: Scott Gou (Chongqing) - cash prize RMB 1,000
Bronze Medal: Jason Kim (Chongqing) - cash prize RMB 500

Best Chaîne Spirit
Gold Medal: René Forester and friend (Shenzhen) - cash prize RMB 1,500
Silver Medal: Hildegard and Blandine (Shenzhen) - cash prize RMB 1,000
Bronze Medal: Shanghai Group Photo at JW Marriott Shanghai - cash prize RMB 500

The event was considered a great success even though this is the first time that the Bailliage of China has organised such event. What fun! It certainly served its purpose of casting away the lockdown blues during this strange and unique time.
