Around the Bailliages

As befits the second largest National Bailliage in the Chaîne, around the country many local Bailliage officers together with their members celebrated World Chaîne Day individually at home.

Separate articles are being published for the Bailliages of Baden-Schwarzwald and Bremen Westniedersachsen. Meanwhile, here is a selection from other Bailliages chosen principally from the postings made to the World Chaîne Day social media wall.

Bailli Bettina Schliephake-Burchardt wrote:

Gathering together was not possible this year for World Chaîne Day so we all spent the day with loved ones, cooking at home and sharing the whole thing globally/digitally. What an excellent idea by the WCD Organising Committee that we all, if only mentally, were sitting together at a well-laid table and spoiling ourselves with a nice meal and a “good drop”!

Although physically quarantined our thoughts were not in lockdown as we remembered the many wonderful moments at our events and looked forward to soon being able to toast “Vive la Chaîne!" together. Take good care of yourselves and your loved ones too.

Bailliage of Hessen
Grand Officier Uwe Teske and Vice-Chargée de Presse Marina Teske wished everyone “Happy World Chaîne Day” greetings from their home in Hessen.

Their “stay at home” dinner even ran to a printed menu card!

MENU
Zucchini chips with salmon tartare
Venison medallions with nut crust and red cabbage balls
Marzipan parfait on rosehip sauce

WINES
Champagne Pommery Brut Royal NV
Barolo 2013 - Fontanafredda
Nebbiolo Vintage Grappa (matured in acacia wood)

Bailliage of Niedersachsen
On the Social Media Wall, Bailli Andreas Wiedemann wished everyone a wonderful World Chaîne Day. In doing so he advocated supporting local restaurants (#supportyourlocalrestaurants) and looked forward to the enjoyment of gastronomy being able to get going again soon (#restartgastro)!

Bailliage of Nordrhein
Grand Officier Klaus Deters posted photos of his barbecue (Ed. And a large one at that!) in action preparing his “stay at home” celebratory meal.

Bailliage of Sachsen
Bailli Günter Anton wrote:

I would have loved to celebrate World Chaîne Day 2020 with Chaîne members and friends.

Instead, our Bailliage flag stood a little lonely in my study. We could only clink glasses with our closest relatives in our own household, not that we necessarily felt like drinking a toast in the current coronavirus situation.

My thoughts are first of all with our professional members. The pandemic has hit them all in a quite drastic manner. Their hotels and restaurants are all closed and it is not yet clear when and to what extent they can open again.

The Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs stands for bringing people together and embodies the common interest in hospitality and good cuisine. However, we currently have to do without common ground in order to protect an equally important thing, namely health.

So what we have today is the spirit that unites us. We are still part of the worldwide Chaîne family. The Confrérie will survive this crisis, I'm sure of it. Let us now be aware of what we have in each other! Let us look forward to the day when we can get together again!

Vive la Chaîne!
