Honouring social responsibility
" what the Chaîne family does so well and with such grace and compassion "

I would like to share with you a very good example of honouring social responsibility under COVID-19 in Turkey.

The Turkish government is sparing no efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. As in other countries, Turkey’s hospitality industry has been badly affected as a result of the complete lockdown. Many of the five-star hotels have lost 100% of their business overnight. Very few are still operating and with a single digit occupancy.

Despite all this our prominent Professional member, Maître Hôtelier Uğur Talayhan, Regional Vice President Luxury Brands, Accor Hotels Turkey & Azerbaijan, and Swissôtel The Bosphorus Istanbul’s General Manager, didn’t forget to contribute to the ongoing efforts to ease the impact on various segments of the society. In particular, the doctors and other medical staff who are risking their own lives to save the lives of many others who have been hit by this killer virus.

Uğur Talayhan and his executive team: Directors of Operations Ahmet Özkan and Ufuk Demir, Executive Chef Ali Ronay, and Banquet Manager Metin Aykan were the pioneers in showing their appreciation to the entire medical staff in three major Istanbul hospitals. They provided them all with complete set dinners for two full weeks.

Furthermore, Uğur Talayhan offered approximately a hundred complimentary rooms at the Swissôtel to doctors and other medical staff from nearby hospitals for an unspecified period, thus allowing easy mobilisation and social distancing for them.

Not only are Uğur and his team looking after people during this difficult time they didn’t forget to provide pet food to the stray cats and dogs within the residential district and parks around the hotel.

The photos on the left show the delivery operation to the respective hospitals. They show Uğur himself, his Executive Chef and his Banquet Manager helping to load the hotel’s refrigerated truck with the meals to be delivered to the hospitals.

Honouring social responsibility is what the Chaîne family do so well and with such grace and compassion. We have lots to be proud of, grateful for and appreciative of all who are helping us through this difficult time.
