Managing Director of Schlosshotel Münchhausen
" the castle from the 16th century combines the convenience of luxurious living with a rich history "

Maître Hôtelier Thomas Bonanni and his team wish you all a very warm welcome from the Schlosshotel Münchhausen located in the Weser Uplands-Schaumburg-Hamelin Natural Park near the historic “Pied Piper” city of Hamelin.

Set in idyllic parkland, lovingly restored and modernized in 2004 this 16th century castle combines the convenience of luxurious living with a rich history.

The magnificent moated Renaissance Schwöbber Castle was built in 1570 by an ancestor of the famous “Liar” Baron von Münchhausen. The Baron got the reputation of being a liar as a result of his unbelievable narratives. However, many are now of the opinion that they were designed not to deceive, but “to ridicule the disposition for the marvellous which he observed in some of his acquaintances”.

Today, the castle walls house the charming 5-star superior Schlosshotel Münchhausen with 68 suites and rooms, three restaurants - one of which has been awarded a Michelin star - and the 800 m2 Münchhausen SPA with an 18 m indoor pool, sauna area and outdoor terrace. Two 18-hole courses right next door await golfers of all levels. For dream weddings, other celebrations and conferences, the castle offers a unique atmosphere with a total of 12 variable rooms for up to 300 people.

Maître Hôtelier Thomas Bonanni has been the hotel’s Managing Director and attentive, always present host for five years. For the passionate hotelier, a big attraction of the establishment is that not only is it one of the most beautiful hotels in Germany but it also has an interesting historical past. This includes the famous growing of pineapples and a visit by Tsar Peter the Great in 1716. Castle walls 450 years old are bound to have something to tell!

In Thomas’ CV among other locations are Argentina, Cologne and Washington DC as well as grand German hotels such as the Parkhotel in Frankfurt, the Atlantic Hamburg and the Taschenbergpalais in Dresden.

He spent a large part of his youth in Buenos Aires. The reason that he became a hotelier may also be due to the fact that he emerged from a one-year course at the Hotel Management School in Bad Wiessee as the best in his year. Before the now 59-year-old made his way to the Schlosshotel Münchhausen, he had managed the Hotel Schloss Reinhartshausen in the Rheingau for over 10 years.

Thomas has been a Maître Hôtelier Professional member of the Chaîne since October 2019 and always looks forward to visits from members and their guests.
